The Summer Workshop will include several live Zoom sessions focused on best practices and the state’s new standards for oral communication along with a variety of 7 pre-recorded sessions available in an on-demand format. This year’s sessions will be labeled in tracks for New Teachers (NT), Oral Communication (OC), Debate (DB8), Forensics (4N6), and Theater (ACT) educators. Sessions are designed to provide something for every discipline and are led by respected educators from across the state.
In addition to professional development opportunities, on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Summer Workshop will include two Zoom forums for discussion of forensics and debate competition. One forum will be led by Arkansas State Championship Chair, Chris Flowers & Jennifer Akers, Chair of the Tournament Advisory Committee, allowing a public discussion on the Arkansas State Forensics & Debate Championship Qualifying Document. At the second forum, Rosie Valdez-Block & Rachel Mauchline will present a proposal for online tournaments and the upcoming competition season.
In addition to professional development and networking, Summer Workshop is a conference where key business of the association is conducted. Throughout the three days, forums will be held to collect input from membership, the Executive Council will plan for the upcoming academic years, and committees will host meetings. This year, committees will be divided into two groups with opportunities to meet in two separate sessions, allowing members to attend/ visit multiple committee meetings.
